A cashmere scarf becomes part of daily life very quickly. It travels to work, rests over a coat, folds into a weekend bag and may eventually become a thoughtful gift.
Good care does not need to be complicated. Cashmere mainly needs space, gentle handling and a little patience.
Let the scarf rest after wearing
After wearing your scarf, give it time to air before folding it away. Lay it flat or place it over a clean, broad surface for a short while.
This allows moisture and everyday odours to disperse naturally. Avoid putting the scarf straight into a crowded drawer or bag immediately after wearing it.
Cashmere does not need to be washed after every use. Frequent washing can place unnecessary stress on the fibres.
Follow the care label first
Every cashmere product should be cared for according to the instructions supplied with it. Different finishes, borders and decorative details may require different treatment.
If your DOMOG piece includes a specific care label, use that as the primary guide. When you are unsure, contact us before washing the product.
General advice is useful, but the care instructions for your individual scarf should always take priority.
Fold instead of hanging
Long-term hanging can stretch the shape of a soft cashmere scarf or shawl. Fold it gently and store it flat.
Do not place heavy items on top of it. Avoid storing it in a damp place, near strong perfume or in direct sunlight for long periods.
A breathable drawer or storage box is usually more suitable than a tightly sealed plastic bag.
Keep fragrance away from the fibres
Perfume, hair products and oils can leave marks or alter the feel of delicate fibres. Apply fragrance before putting on your scarf and allow it to dry first.
This small habit is especially useful for pale colours such as ivory, blush pink and warm beige.
Deal with small pills gently
Pilling can occur when soft fibres rub against clothing, bags or seat belts. It does not automatically mean that the product is poor quality.
If small pills appear, allow the scarf to rest and then remove them carefully with a cashmere comb or a suitable fabric shaver. Do not pull them by hand, because pulling can disturb the surface.
Pay particular attention to areas that experience repeated friction, such as the shoulder, neckline and sides of a handbag.
Wash with care
If the care label permits hand washing, use cool water and a mild detergent made for delicate fibres. Avoid twisting, scrubbing or wringing the scarf.
Press out excess water gently and reshape the piece while it is damp. Dry it flat on a clean towel, away from direct heat and strong sunlight.
Do not place cashmere on a radiator or in a tumble dryer unless the supplied care instructions specifically allow it.
If the piece has a complex pattern, fringe or special finish, professional cleaning may be more appropriate. Always explain that the item is cashmere before sending it to a cleaner.
Store seasonal pieces properly
Before storing a scarf for a long period, make sure it is clean and completely dry. Fold it loosely and keep it in a cool, dry place.
Natural-fibre garments can attract insects. A clean storage environment and a breathable storage bag can help protect the piece. Avoid allowing strong cedar, perfume or chemical scents to sit directly against the cashmere.
DOMOG’s view of care
At DOMOG, we design scarves and shawls to be worn repeatedly. A piece should not feel precious only because it is kept untouched. Its value grows through use: the journeys it joins, the seasons it crosses and the memories attached to it.
Gentle care protects the softness and shape of the cashmere, allowing a DOMOG scarf to remain part of your wardrobe for many years.
