A cashmere scarf can remain beautiful for many years when it is stored with care. Storage is especially important between seasons, when a scarf may stay folded in a wardrobe for several months.
The goal is simple: keep the fibre clean, dry, protected and able to breathe.
Clean before storing
Before putting a cashmere scarf away, check that it is free from makeup, perfume, food particles and body oils. These traces may attract insects or become more difficult to remove over time.
Follow the care instructions for the individual product. If the scarf requires professional cleaning, allow it to dry completely before storage.
Never store cashmere while it is damp. Moisture trapped inside folded fabric can create an unpleasant smell and affect the feel of the material.
Fold instead of hanging
A scarf should generally be folded rather than hung for a long period. Hanging can place unnecessary tension on the fabric and may change its shape.
Fold the scarf loosely along its length, then place it flat in a drawer or wardrobe shelf. Avoid pressing heavy clothing on top of it.
For a larger shawl, fold it into a broad rectangle rather than creating many narrow folds. This helps reduce sharp creases.
Choose a breathable storage bag
A breathable cotton or fabric bag is a good choice for seasonal storage. It protects the scarf from dust while allowing air to circulate.
Avoid sealing cashmere in a plastic bag for a long time. Plastic can trap moisture and does not allow the fibre to breathe properly.
Keep the storage area cool, dry and away from direct sunlight. Strong sunlight may gradually affect darker or more delicate colours.
Protect against moths
Moths are attracted to natural fibres, especially when traces of organic material remain on the fabric.
Keep the wardrobe clean and inspect the storage area regularly. A cedar block or a separate natural sachet can be placed nearby, but it should not press directly against the scarf because oils may mark delicate fibres.
Check stored cashmere from time to time. Early inspection makes it easier to notice moisture, insects or changes in the fabric.
Refresh before wearing
When the new season begins, remove the scarf from its bag and let it rest in a dry, shaded place for a few hours.
Do not place it directly on a radiator or use high heat to remove a fold. Instead, allow the fabric to relax naturally. If necessary, use gentle steam from a safe distance and avoid pressing the iron directly onto the cashmere.
A longer life for a favourite piece
Good storage is part of enjoying a natural material. A DOMOG scarf may be worn during winter, packed for travel or kept for special occasions. Each use becomes easier when the fibre is protected between seasons.
Care does not need to be complicated. Clean it properly, fold it gently, keep it dry and give it space to breathe.
