Rain, Travel and Cashmere: What to Do When Your Scarf Gets Wet

A cashmere scarf may meet rain, a spilled drink or damp air during a journey. The important thing is not to panic or treat the fabric roughly.

Cashmere responds best to patience.

Remove the Scarf Carefully

If your scarf becomes wet, take it off gently. Do not pull the fabric, twist it or hang it immediately from a narrow hanger.

When cashmere is wet, the fibres are more vulnerable to stretching and distortion. Support the scarf with both hands and place it on a clean, dry surface.

Absorb Water Without Rubbing

Use a clean towel to press the surface gently. You can roll the scarf inside the towel for a moment to absorb excess moisture.

Do not wring the scarf. Do not rub a wet mark aggressively. Rubbing can disturb the surface and may make a small stain more visible.

Reshape Before Drying

While the scarf is still damp, carefully return it to its natural shape. Align the edges and arrange the fringes without pulling them.

Then lay the scarf flat in a shaded, well-ventilated place. Keep it away from radiators, hairdryers, heated floors and strong direct sunlight.

Heat can affect the shape, colour and softness of delicate cashmere.

After a Small Spill

If the liquid is clean water, gentle drying may be enough. If the spill contains coffee, wine, oil or another substance, avoid using household stain remover without checking the care instructions.

Blot the area rather than scrubbing it. For a serious stain, professional textile care is the safer choice.

Do Not Wash Immediately Without Checking the Label

Different cashmere scarves can have different finishes, weaves and decorative details. Some can be gently hand washed in cold water, while some woven or detailed pieces may require professional dry cleaning.

Always follow the sewn-in care label on your DOMOG piece.

For products approved for hand washing, use cold water and a mild cashmere detergent. Handle the scarf gently, rinse carefully and never twist it. Reshape and dry flat in the shade.

Prepare for Travel

Before placing a cashmere scarf into a suitcase, make sure it is completely dry. Fold it loosely and avoid putting heavy objects on top of it.

During a long journey, allow the scarf to air briefly before storing it again. A breathable fabric bag is preferable to a tightly sealed plastic bag for longer storage.

A Little Patience Protects the Fibre

Cashmere does not need complicated treatment. It needs low friction, moderate temperature and enough time to dry naturally.

When a DOMOG scarf gets wet, the best response is simple: support it, absorb the moisture, reshape it and let it rest.
